Punjab Gau Sewa Commission vice-chairman directs police to appoint nodal officers for cow protection cells
Punjab Gau Sewa Commission Vice-Chairman Kimti Bhagat on Monday directed the police department to appoint SP and DSP rank officers as the nodal officers of the district-level cow protection cells.
Ludhiana, March 16, 2026: Punjab Gau Sewa Commission Vice-Chairman Kimti Bhagat on Monday directed the police department to appoint SP and DSP rank officers as the nodal officers of the district-level cow protection cells.
Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, ADCs Dr Narinder Singh Dhaliwal, Amit Bamby, District Planning Board Chairman Jatinder Singh Khangura and others, Bhagat said that the Punjab Gau Sewa Commission was committed to ensuring the care and protection of cattle. He asked the officials to purchase a new vehicle for lifting stray cattle and shifting them to Burj Powat Gaushala. He also stated the Municipal Corporation had collected Rs 18 crores as cow cess and the amount must be utilized to ensure effective functioning of the Gaushalas. The officials have also been asked to ensure vaccination of every cattle in the Gaushalas.
The Vice-Chairman stated that a meeting was held for better coordination to ensure proper care of stray cattle. He said that in the coming days, such meetings would be held in all districts of Punjab so that, with the cooperation of the administration, gaushalas, and the general public, stray cattle could be shifted to gaushalas. He directed the officials to take appropriate legal action against those dairy farms that release cattle onto the roads in the morning. He also asked them to clear all pending dues of Gaushala.
Bhagat reiterated the commitment of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to resolve the issue of stray cattle, stating that every possible effort would be made by the Gau Sewa Commission to ensure that stray cattle receive proper shelter and care, and that precious human lives are not lost. He appealed to the concerned officials and the general public to cooperate in the efforts being made by the Gau Seva Commission and the Punjab government for the care of cattle.
