PUNJAB fast approaching towards 100% computerisation of ration cards

Chandigarh, February 26, 2013: The Punjab Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has completed the 96 per cent computerisation of ration cards across the state and is all set for 100% computerisation in next 3 months. It would be the first state in the country that would achieve this distinction.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the department said that state government would soon achieve the target of 100 per cent computerisation of ration cards in the state. He further said that considering this in mind, the state government has recently started verification of computerised ration cards. He said that the state government appealed the people of the state to cooperate with the verification teams and reveal correct information so that the computerisation could be completed in true spirits, which is necessary for transparency in public distribution system,

The spokesperson further said that the Inspectors of Food and Civil Supplies Department were conducting door to door verification. He said that any addition or deletion in the present ration cards could get be incorporated by providing the requisite documents to the visiting inspectors. He said that in future, the department is planning to distribute ration as per the identification in unique ID number.
