Chandigarh, October 28, 2014: The Punjab education department has taken a revolutionary step to e-connect lakh of employees and teachers posted in remote corners of state by providing them web access through newly launched web portal of the department.
The brain child of Punjab education minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema the web portal has facilitated the lives of all its employees, who now would not have to knock the different doors of district education officers and DPI located at Chandigarh to get their service benefits. Dr. Cheema immediately on assuming charge understood the fact that first step to improve the education department lies in facilitating the lives of teachers and employees of education department who were struck in the web of red tape of department. He noticed that for minor benefits teachers have to knock at many desks of the department and the idea of web portal was floated by the minister at that time.
Expressing satisfaction over newly launched portal, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Education Minister, Punjab, announced that all permissions, applications for leave, extensions, medical claims etc. will be made available online at the click of a button. He said that carrying forward the initiative of the government to promote and showcase effective governance through online portals i.e. e-governance, Punjab Government has been making efforts to bring about a procedural revolution for the ease & convenience of the public.
The minister said that Education sector employees can now reap the benefits of a multi-faceted e-governance portal, www.ssapunjab.org, where employees can now voice their grievances, seek redressal for bills – medical claims, conveyance allowance etc., apply for extension post retirement, opt for voluntary or early retirement, apply for paid leave such as child care leave (CCL), Ex-India etc. and check the status of their applications in real-time.
Dr. Cheema, elucidating the advantages of e-governance, further stated that this will make the government more accessible, approachable and available to the common man. The education sector in Punjab employs lakhs of dedicated and committed staff who, as opposed to earlier, when they would have to stand in queues and go back and forth from the District Education Offices for all such applications, can now get their work done and monitor the progress from the convenience of their homes & offices. This move will not only benefit the public but also aid in effective management and organization of the District Education Offices. It will introduce transparency & accountability into the system and is all round a speedier and cost effective measure. Both time & effort will be saved by the offices and officers/employees alike.
The website, www.ssapunjab.org, has been up and running with daily updates and instructions, information on transfers, appointments, recruitment announcements, various useful forms and syllabi with an online digital library that has corresponding course notes and chapter downloads. With the extended provisions to the website, the portal will now benefit education employees along with the students and the general public.
