Chandigarh, May 19, 2014: The Director General of Police, Suresh Arora has felicitated the Punjab Police personnel and Officers for smooth conduct of recently held 16th Lok Sabha Elections. In a message addressed to the state force, the Police Chief has also lauded the support rendered by the families of Police Personnel/Officers to them for doing their long and arduous duty diligently resulting in the peaceful conduct of these elections.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of Punjab Police said that on the recommendations of the DGP Suresh Arora, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal have released a sum of Rs. 5 crore for Police Welfare Fund to undertake various welfare initiatives. He pointed out that funds to the tune of Rs. 2.10 crore have been released for construction of separate washrooms in 300 police stations, Rs. 87.50 lac for 1750 Air Coolers in in barracks of different police lines and units, Rs. 1.54 crore for installations of ROs in police lines, messes and units and Rs. 47.15 lac for providing water coolers in various police stations.
The spokesman said that the Punjab government has decided to provide Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 50,000 financial assistance for simple and grievous injury respectively to Prakaram Medal winner. He said that any police employee would get all his documents regarding pension, gratuity, leave encashment, GPF on the day of his/her retirement and necessary orders have already been issued.
He further said that the Punjab Police–HDFC Bank Scholarship was being launched under which the bank would grant scholarships to the tune of Rs. 10 lac to the academically brilliant wards of police personnel. Students from 8th to 12th standards securing 90% and Grade-A would get Rs. 1000 scholarship per month. Similarly, students doing graduation securing 90% and Grade-A would get Rs. 1500 scholarship per month and students pursuing professional education/higher education to get Rs. 2000 scholarship on securing 90 % or 9 CGPA. He said that HDFC Bank would also organize a special camp for employment to the wards of police personnel and in the month of June, the top officials of HDFC and Punjab police would have a joint meeting in this context. He said that the HDFC Bank has also agreed to not to charge any penalty on delayed payment of any EMI by the 12th day of each month and this facility would start from July 15, 2014. The bank has also agreed to advance personal loan and overdraft facility to the tune of Rs. 10,000 to regular Class-4 employees posted in Chandigarh.
He said that to facilitate the easy movement of Class-4 employees posted at Chandigarh in different units, 65 bicycles have already been provided.
The spokesman said that the DGP has also expressed confidence that the state police would continue to discharge its duty in an efficient and professional manner to strengthen the police-public relations in future also.
