Chandigarh, July 1, 2014: The Punjab Government has constituted ‘Visitor Committees’ for each district to inspect the Psychiatric Nursing Homes & Hospitals in the state.
As per the spokesman of the Health and Family Welfare Department, these committees have been constituted in pursuance of the Section 34 of the Mental Health Act 1987 (Act No 14 of 1987). He informed that committee would comprise of 5 official members including chairman and member secretary and 2 non-official members.
He said that Civil Surgeon of the concerned district have been designated as Chairman of the committee besides Assistant Civil Surgeon as Member, Psychiatrist or Medical Specialist posted at district head quarters as Member Secretary, District Social Security Officer and Programme Officer, Mental Health O/o DHS, Punjab have been inducted as official members. He further said that two social workers would be nominated by chairman as non-official members.
