Punjab CM reviews progress of ongoing memorials

Chandigarh, May 6, 2014: Reviewing the progress of upcoming memorials across the state, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today directed the officers to complete the ongoing works on the memorials in a time bound manner.

Presiding over a meeting with senior officers of the state government to review the ongoing work of memorials here today at CMO, the Chief Minister said that special focus should be laid on the designs of these proposed memorials so that these memorials could emerge as an articulate of our great legacy and culture. He said that the construction work of these memorials should be completed expeditiously with the sole motive to perpetuate the rich legacy of our great religious Gurus, saints and seers for coming generations.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of War Memorial and Bhagwan Valmiki ji Memorial at Amritsar, Jang-e-Azadi Memorial at Kartarpur, Guru Ravidass ji Memorial at Hoshiarpur, Bhai Jaita ji Memorial, Baba Moti Ram Mehra ji Memorial, Swami Vivekananda ji Memorial and Bhai Mardana Sangeet Academy, Ferozepur. Mr. Badal also reviewed the maintenance arrangements of Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur Memorial, Chapparchiri, Wadda and Chota Ghalughara Memorials. He directed that the maintenance of these memorials should be done in an effective manner so that people could be attracted to these memorials.

Principal Secretary Cultural Affairs SS Channi assured the Chief Minister that the ongoing work would be completed expeditiously.

Prominent among those present in the meeting included Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Charanjit Singh Atwal, Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Animal Husbandry Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister SK Sandhu, Financial Commissioner Revenue NS Kang, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister KJS Cheema and Vice Chancellor Punjabi University, Patiala Dr. Jaspal Singh.
