Punjab CM okays upward revision in monthly scholarship for rural students in PAU/GADVASU

Chandigarh, May 8, 2014: In a bid to encourage the rural students to pursue professional courses in agriculture and veterinary sciences besides vocational courses in dairy and allied sectors, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today gave his nod for enhancing the amount of monthly scholarships given to these students studying in Punjab Agriculture University (PAU)/ Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), from existing Rs 600 to Rs 750.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said that the file in this regard was cleared by the Chief Minister this morning. Pertinently, this scholarship was given by the Punjab Agriculture and Marketing Board to incentivize the students from the rural areas studying in both these premier institutes, with an objective to be gainfully employed in the agriculture and allied farming sector. Likewise, the Chief Minister also approved to enhance the existing number of scholarships given to these students from existing 284 to 366, the spokesperson added.
