Chandigarh, March 5, 2022: Team Punjab registered its 2nd win in the ongoing Ranji Trophy group stage defeating Tripura by six wickets at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

It is the second win for the Punjab Ranji team in three matches they have played so far. Their first group league match was a draw against Himachal, however, on the basis of first-innings lead, Punjab was awarded three points. In the 2nd Match Punjab defeated Haryana by 10 wickets and got 7 points, including a bonus point. With today’s win over Tripura Punjab again got 7 points including 1 bonus point and now is on the Top position of the Group F, having qualified for Pre Quarterfinals. 

Earlier, on day 2 of the match Team Punjab bowled out Tripura for 232 runs in their 2nd innings. Punjab started with their 2nd innings batting today, 3rd day of the match and required 240 runs on the board to register a win.

Tripura’s MB Mura Singh struck early and returned the opener Prabhsimran Singh on a duck in the first over itself.  When things seemed difficult and Punjab was 47/2 in the 14th over batsmen Anmol Preet Singh & Mandeep Singh took charge, they stitched a partnership of 99 runs for the 3rd wicket and further Mandeep Singh and Ramandeep Singh contributed 77 runs for the 4th wicket to ensure the a win for Punjab in this match.

For Punjab Anmol Preet Singh scored 64 runs in 149 balls with help of 9 boundaries, Ramandeep Singh scored 43 runs in 38 balls with 7 boundaries and Mandeep Singh played a match winning innings, he scored unbeaten 97 runs in 160 balls with 13 boundaries. Mandeep Singh was declared Man of the Match for his excellent batting performance.

For Tripura bowlers MB Mura Singh 1/43 , AS Sakar 1/51, Saurabh Das 1/57 & Rahil Shah 1/53 all claimed one wicket each.
