Chandigarh, April 8, 2026: Panjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig today chaired a meeting of Chairpersons, Directors and Coordinators of all Teaching Departments, Centres and Institutes at the PU Senate Hall. The meeting focused on implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), upcoming admissions and improvement in ranking parameters.
Addressing the chairpersons, the Vice Chancellor called upon departments to work on the three identified agenda areas with clear timelines. She urged them to ensure that academic load on students remains manageable by evenly distributing Value Added Courses (VAC) and Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) for National Education Policy (NEP).
Reviewing performance indicators linked to rankings, the Vice Chancellor pointed to specific areas requiring attention. She asked departments to enhance consultancy, increase revenue from conduct of examinations, and adopt energy-efficient measures such as LED lighting and BLDC fans.
Emphasising data integrity, Prof Vig directed departments to compile and regularly update comprehensive data on infrastructure, scholarships and academic activities in line with ranking requirements. She noted that scholarship support, particularly for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students, needs to be strengthened.
The Vice Chancellor also stressed the need to promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research within the University and with external institutions to improve research output and visibility. Departments were encouraged to introduce focused programmes on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and entrepreneurship.
In line with evolving academic practices, Prof. Vig suggested that departments explore the possibility of offering one course fully online, carrying two credits, as optional add-on courses. She also called for the creation of a dedicated digital repository of learning resources, including video lectures developed internally or sourced from faculty of other institutions.
Emphasising academic capacity building, Prof Vig said departments must regularly organise Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs), refresher courses, orientation programmes, entrepreneurship initiatives and invited talks to strengthen teaching and research standards.
Highlighting placements and industry linkage, Prof Vig stressed the importance of internships and directed departments to enhance placement outcomes. She called for active engagement with alumni and leading companies in relevant sectors to improve career opportunities for Panjab University students.
