Chandigarh, December 8, 2018: Panjab University, Chandigarh in its Syndicate meeting held here today, deliberated on all the agenda items.

At the outset, the Syndicate members expressed gratitude for the initiative taken by Prof.Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor for getting the approval from UGC regarding non-compounded advance increments to Ph.D degree holders to be admissible along with benefit of number of years required for promotion under Career Advance Scheme (CAS). This has been a long pending demand of the faculty and has brought great respite to large numbers of teachers in PU and its affiliated colleges. The Syndicate adopted the UGC letter in this regard.

PU VC informed the Syndicate that Panjab University has been short-listed for a tag of Institute of Eminence. Also an amount of Rs. 50 Crore will be released shortly to Panjab University under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India.

The Syndicate resolved to consider seniority for the post of Dean Research PU.

The Syndicate accepted the report submitted by the committee regarding their visit to the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Govt. of Meghalaya for verification of the validity of the degrees issued by CMJ University, Shillong (Meghalaya). However, University to take legal opinion in the matter before initiation of any action.

The Syndicate regarding Guidelines/Rules for condonation of shortage of attendance, resolved to refer it back to the committee to relook on the basis of UGC guidelines/PU Handbook of Information.

The Syndicate resolved to accept the report of the committee regarding the quality of construction over the last 16 years of the expansion of PU which includes buildings like UIAMS, International Hostel, Dental Institute, Science Blocks (BMS-I and II), South campus, College Bhawan and Guru Tegh Bahadur Bhawan. However, the Syndicate authorised the Vice Chancellor for making a technical committee to identify the lapses in the construction work and resolved to involve the concerned department in the supervision of the work in future.

The Syndicate approved the appointment of Prof. Deepti Gupta, Deptt of English and Cultural Studies as Dean Alumni Relations for a period of one year.

The Syndicate deliberated on the representation received from Ambedkar Students Association (ASA), PU regarding examination fee concession and the same was accepted.
