PU Police Administration Students Concludes Internship Programme with Hands-on Learning of ERSS

Chandigarh, July 20, 2026: The three-week Internship Programme organised by the Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh concluded with an educational visit to the Police Command and Control Centre at Chandigarh Police Headquarters, Sector 9. The internship programme was organised in collaboration with the Recruit Training Centre (RTC), Sector 26, Chandigarh Police.
The visit provided the students of M.A. (Police Administration) with practical exposure to technology-driven policing through the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS).
Paramjeet Sekhon, Inspector Incharge, Communication, along with her team, familiarised the students with the functioning of the state-of-the-art Police Command and Control Centre, which serves as the central hub for real-time monitoring, emergency response coordination through the nationwide emergency helpline Dial 112, traffic management, and public safety operations. The officers highlighted the role of the Integrated Command and Control System in enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring prompt emergency response, and facilitating seamless coordination among various police units.
The students were given a detailed demonstration of the city-wide CCTV surveillance network, emergency response mechanisms, and advanced communication technologies employed for crime prevention, traffic regulation, disaster management, and public safety. 
Students also gained insights into digital monitoring systems and technology-enabled policing initiatives that strengthen law enforcement and improve citizen safety. The officers further highlighted the significance of smart policing initiatives, the integration of digital technologies in policing, and the operational challenges involved in managing city-wide surveillance and emergency response systems.
As part of the concluding activities, feedback from the students regarding the internship programme was also collected to further strengthen future academic–police collaborations.
The programme concluded with a valedictory session.

Dr. Kuldeep Singh remarked that the internship has significantly enriched the students’ understanding of contemporary police administration by exposing them to modern policing practices, digital governance, forensic applications, cyber policing, police station administration, and technology-driven emergency response systems. He emphasized that such experiential learning programmes effectively bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional policing practices, thereby preparing students for future careers in policing, public administration, and internal security.
He further stated that the Centre for Police Administration PU, looks forward to continuing such collaborative training and internship programmes with Chandigarh Police in the future to provide students with sustained practical exposure to evolving policing practices and emerging technologies in law enforcement.
