PU NSS Concludes Special Camp on Empowering Youth and Mental Health
Panjab University (PU)’s National Service Scheme (NSS) Special Seven-Day and Night Camp concluded at the Panjab University campus. The NSS camp “Empowering Youth: Mental Health and Community Wellness” was organised from January 8 to 14, 2026, under the guidance of Dr Parveen Goyal, Programme Coordinator, NSS, Panjab University.
Chandigarh, January 15, 2026: Panjab University (PU)’s National Service Scheme (NSS) Special Seven-Day and Night Camp concluded at the Panjab University campus. The NSS camp “Empowering Youth: Mental Health and Community Wellness” was organised from January 8 to 14, 2026, under the guidance of Dr Parveen Goyal, Programme Coordinator, NSS, Panjab University.
The camp focused on mental health awareness, community outreach and personality development of NSS volunteers. Daily activities began at 7 am with Prabhat Pheri, followed by regular self-defence sessions conducted by the Chandigarh Police.
Expert talks were organised on mental health, the importance of artificial intelligence, cyber hygiene, legal literacy, traffic rules awareness, fire safety and anti-narcotics. Volunteers also took part in workshops and competitions including best out of waste, poster making, rangoli and declamation, all linked to the camp theme. Sports activities were held at the Panjab University Sports Department to promote physical well-being.
As part of exposure and social learning, volunteers visited Gurdwara Shri Nada Sahib and Mata Mansa Devi Temple. A cleanliness drive and awareness rally were organised at Sukhna Lake and in the adopted village of Kishan Garh. Nukkad nataks on mental health and drug abuse were performed by NSS volunteers in the adopted village of Khuda Alisher, along with an awareness rally.
The camp received an encouraging response from volunteers. The programme officers mentored participants throughout the camp. The initiative aimed to build social awareness, discipline and leadership skills, while encouraging youth to contribute positively to community welfare.
