PU marks the birth anniversary of Mahadevi Verma

Chandigarh, March 26, 2019: Department of Hindi, Panjab University, today organized a special event to commemorate the birth anniversary of celebrated poet and author, Mahadevi Verma. Dr.Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson, Dept. of Hindi, said that, “Mahadevi Verma was a literary genius whose thought process was much ahead of her times and that makes her work relevant even today . ‘Shrnkhlaki Kadiya’, collection of essays authored by her, lays a foundation for feminist discourse and tackles women related issues fearlessly.”
The program began with a screening of short film on life and literary works of Mahadevi Verma. This was followed by student presentations on various aspects of life and works of Mahadevi Verma who is also a Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Gyanpeeth awardee. Ritu (research scholar), spoke about her memoirs, Indu (student) discussed the author’s empathy towards animals that is reflected in her book, ‘ MeraParivar’, Rajvinder (student) discussed the author’s experiences with her contemporary writers, Kanchog Paldan (student) made a presentation on Mahadevi Verma’s collection of poems. Usha (research scholar) conducted the program. Certificates were distributed to students and research scholars during the event. Faculty members from Department of Hindi, Prof. Baijnath Prasad, Prof. Stayapal Sehgal, Prof. Neerja Sood, Dr. Ashok Kumar and chairperson Dr.Gurmeet Singh attended the event.
