PU Hosts “Strings for Serenity” Sitar Recital to Promote Mental Wellbeing
Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organised a live sitar recital titled “Strings for Serenity" in Department of Statistics to promote mental health awareness.
Chandigarh, April 17, 2026: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organised a live sitar recital titled “Strings for Serenity" in Department of Statistics to promote mental health awareness.
Chairperson, Department of Statistics, PU Prof. Narinder Kumar in his opening remarks highlighted the importance of mental wellbeing and noted that music can effectively break the monotony of daily routines while offering emotional balance.
The recital featured Assistant Professor, Department of Music, PU, Dr. Umesh Kumar who presented a sitar performance. He was accompanied by Rajneesh Dhiman on tabla and Bunty Arya on flute.
During the session, Dr. Umesh Kumar highlighted the therapeutic potential of music, stating that it has the ability to influence emotional states grounding individuals during distress and uplifting them during moments of joy. He performed the popular dhun “Shiv Kailash Ke Wasi.”
The event was coordinated by Harminder Singh Deosi and Ms. Monika Sood. Faculty members, research scholars, staff, and students attended the session.
