PU geared up for three days Rose Festival

Chandigarh, February 8, 2018: Panjab University (PU) Rose Festival would display 198 varieties of roses at the Prof R.C. Paul Rose Garden at PU Campus. The three day 9th PU Rose Festival is starting from February 9.
Prof. Meenakshi Malhotra, DUI, PU would inaugurate the PU Rose Festival at 2 PM on February 9. The theme of the festival for this year is Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. At the time of inauguration, a variety of cultural programmes will be presented by the University and School students.
All the preparations have been completed and PU is ready to welcome the visitors. The varieties of Roses at Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden have been increased from 178 to 198.
Sufi Folk Singer Rza Heer, Sufi Singer Kanwar Grewal and others would be the star attraction this year. Prof. R.C.Paul Rose Garden, the venue of the festival is spread over an area of 3.5 acres has 198 variety of Roses grown in 250 flower beds which are in full blossom these days with 2,800 Rose Plants.
9th Panjab University Rose Festival has been made to give new look to the University Campus in a festival spirit like erecting two welcome gates, Hot Air Balloon, Flash Light etc. and for beautification of garden, flower pots will be displayed in old
condemned tyres.
The entries received for photography exhibition has been adjudged by a committee comprising of Associate Professor Jayanth Narayan Pethkar, School of
Communication Studies, PU, Sh. Sanjeev Sharma, Senior Photo Journalist, Hindustan Times, Sh. Upendra Sen Gupta, Chief Photographer, Dainik Jagran and Ms. Renuka B. Salwan, Director, Public Relations, PU whose result would be announced on February 9, 2018.
There would also be a Fashion Competition on 9th February in which 9 teams will be participating. PU has received in approximately 915 offline entries and 415 online entries for all the competitions.
350 entries for flower competition have already been received and more entries are expected.
Prizes for flower competition and photography competition will be given by Col. G.S.Chadha (Retd.) at 7:00 PM on February 9, 2018 at Old Convocation Ground, PU.
On the occasion, Rose Prince and Rose Princess will be announced and awarded.
For the photography aspirants, a selfie point is being created by fixing self made colorful butterfly. To make it more attractive, selfie and catch the glimpses
competition will be organised without any entry fees. Daily three prizes will be awarded by the organizers to winners of this competition. The selfie competition
participants have to upload photos on Facebook Page of Panjab University Rose Festival.
For the entertainment of general public and participants, cultural nights will be organized on all three days.
