PU Centre for Police Administration Organises Lectures on Youth Leadership, Counter-Terrorism and Drug Trafficking

Chandigarh, September 17, 2026: The Centre for Police Administration, U.I.E.A.S.S. in collaboration with National Cadet Corps of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, organised lectures on topics “Leadership and Youth: Shaping the Future of Uniformed Services Recruitment,” and “Counter Terrorism and Drug Trafficking: Challenges and Strategies.”

Chairperson, Centre for Police Administration, Dr. Kuldeep Singh  extended a warm welcome to the distinguished speakers Lt Gen Tejinder Singh Shergill (Retd.) PVSM, and IPS (Retd.), Siddharth Chattopadhyaya,1986 Batch, Punjab Cadre, Former Director General of Police (HoPF), Punjab.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh addressed the students about the importance of capable leadership, professional ethics, youth preparedness, drug awareness, and coordinated security responses in strengthening the effectiveness of India’s uniformed and security services.

Lt Gen Tejinder Singh Shergill (Retd.) PVSM, in the first session on “Leadership and Youth: Shaping the Future of Uniformed Services Recruitment,” highlighted the importance of leadership, discipline, character, commitment and a sense of responsibility among youth, particularly for those aspiring to join the Armed Forces and Police Services. He discussed the changing expectations from young professionals in uniformed services and emphasized the role of sound leadership and ethical values in building effective and responsible institutions. The interaction also provided students with valuable insights into career opportunities and the qualities required for successful service in uniformed organisations.

Siddharth Chattopadhyaya, IPS (Retd.), former DGP, in second session on “Counter Terrorism and Drug Trafficking: Challenges and Strategies,” drawing upon his extensive experience in policing and border security, spoke about the challenges associated with terrorism, drug trafficking and related security concerns.

Siddharth Chattopadhyaya emphasised the significance of intelligence-based policing, inter-agency coordination, effective investigation, border management and professional capacity-building in addressing emerging security challenges. He also highlighted the importance of understanding the linkages between trans-national terrorism, drug trafficking, organized criminal activities and broader security concerns.

The interactive sessions with the speakers provided students with an opportunity to connect academic knowledge with the practical experiences of distinguished professionals from the Armed Forces, Police and security services.

The lectures were attended by approximately 60 participants, including faculty members, students of M.A. Police Administration, NCC cadets, research scholars, and office staff of Centre for Police Administration and NCC of Panjab University.
