Jalandhar, January 23, 2014: Punjab Technical University (PTU) today announced that it is expanding its Kapurthala campus infrastructure. It has an ambitious plan of coming up with college buildings, library and seminar hall. The total floor area of the new infrastructure shall be 3.4 lakh sq. ft. and it is estimated to cost Rs 80.5 crores. Madan Mohan Mittal, Minister for Technical Education & Industrial Training, Punjab laid the foundation stone of the new buildings today along with Dr. Rajneesh Arora, Vice Chancellor, PTU and other senior management of the University.

Mittal congratulated team PTU on this development. Post the foundation stone laying ceremony, he addressed a gathering of meritorious students and faculty which was web-cast across 400+ affiliated colleges of the University.  He said, “PTU has been taking phenomenal strides when it comes to furthering technical education and it is only logical that the University would require more space and infrastructure to meet its objectives. The state government supports its initiatives wholeheartedly. I am sure that the new college buildings, library and seminar hall shall benefit the students as well as the faculty in the years to come.”

Dr. Rajneesh Arora, Vice Chancellor, Punjab Technical University said, “The University required new buildings and I am delighted that this is finally becoming a reality. If we are aiming to become a global hub for higher education then our infrastructure too should match the international standards. The facilities on the anvil shall be equipped with the latest technology and devices.”

The two new college buildings, six storied each with a combined floor plate of 2.78 lakh square feet would be able to house 1200 students, the three storied library with floor area of 59000 sq. ft. shall have 3 lakh books while the single storied seminar hall with floor area of 3000 sq. ft. would be able to accommodate 150 people.
