Chandigarh, November 15, 2013: Punjab Technical University (PTU) has initiated admissions in January besides the routine admissions in July-August.
“This move is aimed at saving six valuable months of students who get their results late and therefore are not able to take admission in July. It will also benefit students from affected states such as Jammu & Kashmir and states in the North East region. Besides, it shall also be of help to international students from Uganda, Tanzania, and Ethiopia etc.,” informed Dr. Buta Singh Sidhu, Dean Academics, PTU.
According to Dr. Rajneesh Arora, Vice Chancellor, PTU, “This comes as boon for students who wish to change their college/University after completion of first semester, especially for students who wish to return to their home state Punjab. All such students shall be admitted to the second semester in January session against vacant seats if the course curriculum of the first semester of their previous institute matches with that of PTU up to minimum required level.”
In case of some engineering branches & other courses where certain pre-requisite study is required, such studies will be offered during summer vacations (June-July). For B. Tech. courses, students admitted in January in second semester directly will complete their second semester first as the syllabus does not have mandatory condition to study first semester prior to the second. Therefore, these students in the second semester will attend classes with the existing batches admitted in July-August. They may also be allowed to complete their first semester along with the students of immediate lower batch.
A separate batch will start for the students admitted during January from 3rd semester onwards to complete their degree in the minimum time duration i.e. four years as prescribed by AICTE. Students of different colleges in a district will be delivered courses at one centralized place.
Institutes that wish to make admissions in January must inform PTU about their willingness to do so well in time and make public on their website the no. of vacant seats of the sanctioned intake of the academic year.
This decision was taken byPTU’sacademic council and Board of Governorsin 2012 but a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed against it. However the Punjab & Haryana High Court gave decision in favour of PTU besides lauding this initiative. Admissions were made in January 2013. PTU now wishes to maximize this initiative and enrol many more students.
The admission process for January 2014 admissions will start on December 02, 2013 and the last date of admission is January 19, 2014.
