Protestors seeking arrest of murder accused indulge in vandalism

Ludhiana, August 29, 2013: Some of the protestors staging protest following the murder of a person identified as Shammi on Wednesday late evening, indulged in vandalism near Bharat Nagar Chowk here on Thursday. As a result, a Punjab Roadways bus was damaged. Protestors even damaged a few cars and a few nearby shops. They even manhandled with the general public. A media person also sustained minor injuries. He was rushed to local civil hospital for treatment.
Protest continued for about four hours, resulting to which commuters face a lot of difficulties due to severe traffic interruption. Agitated protestors sat on a dharna in middle of the Bharat Nagar Chowk and sought immediate arrest of the accused. Finally, the police managed to convince the protestors following which the passage was got cleared.
The deceased was allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons by a group of persons last evening in the Jawahar Nagar area and the doctors at a private hospital at declared him brought dead. As a result, people of this area were agitated and sat on a protest dharna this morning. Police told the protestors that they had already registered an FIR in connection with the murder and efforts were on to arrest the accused.
Tension was created in Bharat Nagar Chowk after a few people indulged in vandalism. Then nearby shopkeepers preferred to shut down shutters of their shops.
Personal enmity is stated to be cause of murder.
The postmortem of the body of the deceased was conducted and the body was handed over to the family.
