Property Consultants Association’s efforts pay off; No-Dues certificate requirement for sale of leasehold property scrapped

Chandigarh, September 4, 2026: Property transactions involving leasehold properties in Chandigarh are set to become easier, with the administration removing the mandatory requirement of submitting a No-Dues Certificate before selling such properties.
Property Consultants Association Chandigarh president Vikram Chopra said the decision follows the association’s efforts to seek relief from the lengthy No-Dues process. Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav has issued an order in this regard.
The association had met officials of the Chandigarh administration in July and raised the issue of delays caused by the No-Dues process. It had pointed out that the requirement often resulted in unnecessary delays in property transactions, causing inconvenience to both buyers and sellers.
Accepting the association’s demand, the administration has now done away with the requirement of submitting a No-Dues Certificate at the time of sale of leasehold property. The move is being viewed as a major relief for property owners, buyers and consultants involved in transactions.
Welcoming the decision, representatives of the association said the move would make property transactions in Chandigarh simpler and faster. With the lengthy No-Dues procedure no longer required before the sale, unnecessary delays in property deals are expected to come down significantly.
