Ludhiana, July 18, 2025: Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Vice Chairperson Gunjeet Ruchi Bawa on Friday announced the launch of Project JeevanJyot 2.0, a transformative initiative aimed at safeguarding the rights and welfare of children across Punjab and directed the formation of District-Level Taskforces in every district to drive the initiative’s objectives.
Each Taskforce will be chaired by the Deputy Commissioner and comprise key officials, including the Commissioner/Superintendent of Police, Civil Surgeon, District Education Officer, and District Labour Officer. Operating under the PSCPCR’s guidance, these Taskforces will receive comprehensive support and coordination to ensure effective implementation of the project.
A detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been issued to all districts, providing clear guidelines for executing Project JeevanJyot 2.0. The SOP emphasizes DNA testing to verify the parentage of children found begging with adults, a critical step in addressing child exploitation and trafficking. This framework will guide Taskforces in tackling pressing child protection and welfare issues systematically.
Bawa urged all stakeholders to unite in this vital mission, emphasizing collective responsibility. “Project JeevanJyot 2.0 is a step toward a safer and brighter future for Punjab’s children,” she stated.
