Professor Anil Kumar joined as the Chairperson of the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, for a term of three years w.e.f. 1 June 2023.

Chandigarh June 1, 2023: Professor Anil Kumar joined as the Chairperson of the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, for a term of three years w.e.f. 1 June 2023.

Currently, he is also the Head & Coordinator of Central Animal House, Panjab University; Member Secretary, CPCSEA, Panjab University and Nodal officer, National E-Scholarship Cell, Panjab University.

Prof. Anil Kumar, a Professor of Pharmacology and an active researcher at PU, has an expertise in a vital area of research i.e. Neurodegenerative and Neuropsychiatric disorders: Alzheimer and Huntington’s disease Parkinson diseases, Depression, Epilepsy, Stress, stroke and stress-related pathologies, neurobiology of sleep and sleep-related disorders, Diabetes and related complications- neuropathic pain, nephropathy and Pain and inflammation. Clinical Research- Ethics, Rational use of Drug, Prescription monitoring/ Drug utilization studies.

Professor Kumar was recognized as the world top 2% scientist in Pharmacy and Pharmacology category in the year 2022. Earlier, he also bagged numerous awards viz. ICMR Award for Biomedical Scientist, Chandra Kanta Dandiya Prize, Bharat Shiksha Ratan Award, IBRO award, Best paper award of JCTR, APTI’s Young Pharmacy Teacher Award, AICTE Career Award, Rafaelsen Young Investigator award, Lilly fellow’s investigator award, INSA visiting fellowship, BOYSCAST fellowship, ICAD fellowship, Riken Brain Science Fellowship, Japan.

Professor Kumar has more than 155 research papers to his credit with a citation index of 9500, h-index –49, and i10 index 99). He also has around 50 review articles, 4 books and 21 book chapters. Till date, he has 20 research projects amounting to Rs 1.60 crores from CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DST, DRDE, PURSE and Industrial projects.
