Ludhiana, September 9, 2019: Awareness about ‘Hospital Acquired Infections’ and its prevention has acquired manifold dimensions these days, says Dr Deepinder Chhina, Professor & Head of Microbiology, DMCH, Ludhiana.
Dr Deepinder Chhina, Organizing Secretary of recently-held Hospital Infection Control Conference at DMCH said that ‘Hospital Acquired Infections’, also known as Nosocomial infections normally occur in patients under medical care in hospital. These infections occur worldwide both in developed and developing countries and include mainly infections pertaining to bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, surgical site infections, ventilator associated pneumania and others as well. Needle stick injury is also one of the most common hospital acquired infections, and is quite common among nursing staff of the hospital. It is estimated such infections accounts for seven percent in developed and ten percent in developing countries. During the conference, Ludhiana Chapter of Hospital Infection Control was launched, which will be beneficial for all.
Secretary of DMCH Managing Society Prem Kumar Gupta said that DMCH has an exclusive ‘Hospital Infection Control Committee’ under the headship of (Dean Academics) Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, who along with other faculty members of Department of Microbiology has been regularly conducting awareness lectures among nursing staff to prevent ‘Hospital Acquired Infections’
Dr Tanvir Sachdeva distributed prizes to the winners of different competition during impressive valedictory function.
