Nilokheri, January 2, 2026: Villages are not merely geographical units, but the center of our culture, traditions, and soul. These views were expressed by Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD). He was addressing the participants from across the state at a training program organized at the institute on the theme "My Village - My Heritage."

Village Secretaries from all districts of Haryana participated in this program. The program was coordinated by Sakshi from the Development and Panchayat Department, Haryana, and Dr. Sushil Mehta from the HIRD. Initially, Sakshi presented the program's outline, explaining that through the "My Village - My Heritage" campaign, it is essential to preserve the historical heritage, folk culture, traditional knowledge, and social values of villages and pass them on to future generations.

In his address, Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan said that preserving the heritage of villages is not just about safeguarding the past, but also about connecting future generations to their roots. He said that Village Secretaries act as a bridge between the government and the village. If Village Secretaries understand and work with the historical heritage, folk traditions, and social values of the village, then cultural preservation is possible alongside development. He emphasized that only when development and heritage go hand in hand will holistic rural development be realized.

Director HIRD, Dr. Chauhan said that initiatives like "My Village - My Heritage" instill a sense of self-respect in villages, and this campaign can only be successful through public participation. He urged the Village Secretaries to consider this campaign not just a government program, but a people's movement. He said that government schemes are only successful when they are implemented not just on paper, but with heart and soul on the ground.

He appealed to the Village Secretaries to consider their responsibilities not merely as a job, but as a service to the village. He said that when work is done with honesty, sensitivity, and dedication, its impact is not limited to statistics, but a positive change is visible in the life of every person in the village.

During this event, consultant Gurbinder Singh from the National Institute of Rural Development, Himanshu from the Development and Panchayat Department, Village Secretary Bhagat Singh, Sahil, and other participants were present.
