PPFA condemns communal forces in Assam; urges actions against anti-nationals

uwahati: The Patriotic People’s Front Assam (PPFA) expresses serious concern over the recent communal outbursts glorifying a militant outfit soon after an incident involving few ULFA members in Nagaon of central Assam and urges the authority to investigate the matter properly & thoroughly for taking appropriate actions against those responsible for flaring communal tensions.

The forum has carefully observed that a section of the Assamese intellectuals, writers, social activists, and some journalists etc have tried their best to misinterpret the Nagaon incident, where a groups of youths were humiliated by another group of businessmen relating to some donations on 24 August last, as a fit case against the Bengali’s domination over Assamese locals. Their attempt to colour this incident must be condemned by all right thinking people of the state of Assam.

They tried to instigate a communal disturbance by cleverly avoiding the information that the group of businessmen, which insulted the visiting youths (read former militants) represented both the Bengali and Assamese communities. The irresponsible campaigners even made early resolutions that Hindu Bengali would never mingle with Assamese locals in the State,” said a statement issued by the PPFA. This is unfortunate to say the least that a group of people, who do not even have a modicum of shame, is trying to mislead people by misrepresenting facts.

The forum, while appreciating the common people of the State for not listening to how these groups of instigators’ tried to indulge in misadventures to communalize the society and glamorize the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA),expressed shock that the BJP led Assam did not show any urgency to respond to the crisis.

“It took the State home minister (CM Sarbananda Sonowal) took three days to comment on the incident and how people were misled. What is even more disturbing is that he avoided using strong words against those who publicly threatened to take up arms and the few people who openly demonstrated their inclination to separatist ULFA (I) leader Paresh Barua,” commented the forum.

Sonowal should not forget that as a legislator he took the pledge for safeguarding the territorial integrity of India. The forum also extended its wholehearted support to the terror-victim families’ and demand for justice. It reminded the groups of self-motivated handful of Assamese intellectual, writer, social activist and journalists etc not to forget the criminal activities once engineered by the armed militant outfits including the ULFA. The PPFA also urged the State government to initiate delivering justice to the victims of insurgencies and compensate them adequately.

The PPFA also reminded those that hide behind their parochial garbs to not forget that the Assamese people are fully aware of the price ordinary people of the state had to pay for the communal violence by being misled through various vested propaganda machines of the various groups that masquerade themselves as the protectors of Assamese society. People cannot be fooled and brainwashed by such cheap and dirty politics anymore, said the Forum.
