Ludhiana, December 31, 2021: Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal (PPBM) general secretary Sunil Mehra has welcomed that GST Council has unanimously decided to defer hike in GST on textiles from 5 percent to 12 percent. 
In a statement here today, he added that the matter would be discussed again in the next Council meet for future roadmap. 
He said the GST rate hike on textiles from 5 percent to 12 percent was to come into effect from January 1, 2022.
“The traders’ community of Punjab highly appreciates the Modi-government for taking this decision”, he said.’
He also appreciated BJP’s state president Ashwani Sharma and general secretary Jeewan Gupta for strongly tabling grievances of Punjab textile industry and trade before Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman following which the announcement had been made today.
Mehra hoped that the decision would surely give a boost to trade of the state which had suffered heavily due to the pandemic in the last a couple of years.
