Powercom Fully Committed to Providing Uninterrupted Power Supply: Dr. Basant Garg

Ludhiana, August 7, 2026: Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (Powercom), Dr. Basant Garg, today held separate meetings with representatives of industrial associations and farmers' organisations to discuss in detail their grievances, suggestions and demands. He stated that today's meetings have been organised to effectively implement the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make every possible effort to ensure uninterrupted and reliable power supply to industrial and agricultural consumers.
During the meeting, Pankaj Sharma, President of the Association of Trade and Industrial Undertakings (ATIU), congratulated Dr. Basant Garg on his appointment and presented a memorandum containing suggestions to further strengthen uninterrupted power supply to industries. The memorandum included proposals for ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to industrial units, addressing the shortage of technical staff, undertaking preventive maintenance of the power distribution system before the summer season, long-term planning to meet future power demand, establishing new substations, realigning long cable lines, carrying out timely maintenance of ageing transformers, and improving the maintenance of street lighting in industrial areas.
Dr. Basant Garg assured the industrial representatives that all their suggestions and demands would be examined seriously by Powercom. He said that proposals beneficial to public interest and strengthening the power distribution system would be implemented on a priority basis. During the meeting, Dr. Garg reiterated that ensuring uninterrupted power supply to industrial units remains one of Powercom's top priorities. He further stated that if a power shutdown becomes unavoidable due to an emergency, the concerned industrial unit would be informed in advance. He also advised industrialists to contact him directly or the concerned officers in case of load enhancement requirements, transformer overloading or any other technical issues so that timely resolution can be ensured.
Interacting with representatives of farmers' organisations, Dr. Basant Garg said that their grievances would also be addressed on a priority basis. He stated that if any official fails to respond to their concerns at any level, they may contact him directly. He described the interaction with the farmers as highly cordial and constructive. He further informed them that whenever electricity supply had to be curtailed temporarily due to difficult circumstances, the shortfall was subsequently compensated by providing additional power supply.
The CMD further said that Powercom is undertaking large-scale works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to strengthen and modernise the electricity distribution network. Under this scheme, extensive works relating to system maintenance, strengthening of the distribution infrastructure and accelerated development in urban areas are being implemented to provide consumers with better and uninterrupted power services. Dr. Basant Garg reiterated that Powercom remains fully committed to the timely redressal of consumer grievances and the delivery of quality power services.
