Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh launches distribution of 10,500 safety tool kits worth ₹12.60 Crore to PSPCL employees
Safety of power employees is the Punjab Government's top priority: Sond
Ludhiana, July 20, 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party Government, under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is according top priority to the safety of power sector employees across the state. As part of this commitment, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has procured 10,500 safety tool kits for employees engaged in the power distribution system. The distribution of these kits was formally launched today by Punjab Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond during a function held at the PSPCL office in Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana. The event was attended by Dr. Basant Garg, Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD), PSPCL, and Er. Inderpal Singh, Director (Distribution).
Addressing the gathering, Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond said that power employees work tirelessly under all weather conditions to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers. He observed that during previous governments, fatal and non-fatal accidents involving Assistant Linemen (ALMs), Linemen and other employees working on the distribution system were not addressed with the seriousness they deserved, resulting in the loss of many precious lives. He said that the present Punjab Government has taken this important initiative to strengthen the safety of power employees. The Minister urged employees to regularly use the safety tool kits and strictly follow all prescribed safety protocols so that valuable lives can be protected and workplace accidents significantly reduced. He reiterated that the Punjab Government and PSPCL remain committed to ensuring the safety, welfare and improved working conditions of power employees and that such employee-centric initiatives will continue in future as well. The function was hosted by Er. Jagdev Singh Hans, Chief Engineer, Central Zone, Ludhiana. Chief Engineer (P&M), Chief Engineer (Stores & Workshop) and other senior PSPCL officers were also present on the occasion.

PSPCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Dr. Basant Garg, said that under the Punjab Government's initiative, PSPCL has spent approximately ₹12,000 on each safety tool kit, with the procurement of 10,500 kits involving a total expenditure of ₹12.60 crore. He said that besides providing these safety kits, employees are also being imparted continuous training on the proper use of safety equipment so that workplace accidents can be minimized. Each safety tool kit includes a canvas bag, pliers, screwdriver set, spanner set, ratchet set, neon tester, pole safety belt, safety helmet, voltage sensor, reflective jacket, safety goggles, rechargeable LED torch and safety gloves, all of which will provide enhanced protection to employees while carrying out their duties.
