Power Minister Sanjeev Arora Reviews PSPCL’s Landmark Urban Infrastructure Make-Over Project
Pilot Project in Ghumar Mandi to eliminate low-hanging wires, enhance safety, and modernise power networks across Punjab
Ludhiana, November 15, 2025: Power Minister Sanjeev Arora on Saturday conducted an on-site review of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited’s (PSPCL) ambitious power line upgradation Make-Over Project at Ghumar Mandi, marking the beginning of a new era of safe, reliable and aesthetically improved urban power infrastructure in the state.
Shri Arora said the project will modernise overhead power networks, eliminate hazards, minimise outages and deliver cleaner, more organised streetscapes.
“This is not merely an upgrade; it is a comprehensive transformation that will make our cities safer, more reliable and visually appealing,” the Minister stated.
The pilot project has been launched in the City West Ludhiana Subdivision across 25 feeders, with the tender already awarded to a reputed contractor. The pilot phase is slated for completion within the next two months. Upon successful execution, the model will be replicated across all the remaining 86 subdivisions in Punjab.
The project includes complete removal of dish cables, internet fibre and other non-PSPCL wiring from electricity poles to enable rapid visual inspections and faster fault detection. Low-hanging wires will be raised to safe clearances to prevent accidents involving high vehicles. Multiple cable joints will be replaced with seamless new conductors to curb outages, voltage fluctuations and fire risks. Meter boxes will be sealed against weather exposure and tampering, ensuring consumer safety and billing integrity.
“Once completed, this project will virtually eliminate accidents caused by hanging lines or damaged cables, enable quicker fault resolution, stabilise supply, reduce fire hazards and protect metering infrastructure,” Arora emphasised.
The Minister expressed confidence that the successful pilot project will pave the way for a swift statewide rollout, delivering major improvements in public safety and service quality across Punjab. He also directed the BSNL SDO to ensure the early removal of extra poles so that the pilot project work proceeds without any hindrance.
Local residents appreciated the Minister’s initiative, saying the project will enhance safety, improve urban aesthetics and ensure uninterrupted power supply.
