Hyderabad, August 27, 2017: Public spaces are difficult to find in the city. The moment we see an an empty space our politicians get all sorts of ideas. Our Chief Minister KC Chandrasekhar Rao wanted Bison Polo ground for Telangana-Secretariat. On one side we need grounds to build sports ecosystem. On the other side our politicians snatch away all the public places available says Jaya Bharthi, an Architect and a member of the ‘Hyderabad Bikerni’ group participating in panel discussion : " Role of Physical Literacy in Long -Term Athlete Developments & Sports" held as part of the Sports Carnival at ISB in Gachibowli on Sunday. She asked people to save sports grounds.

The event was one of the two events planned as part of the August Fest 2017, the Asias largest Sartup Festival.

We need more maidans than the stadiums added Jitendra Joshi, Co-Founder & Director SportzConsult, another panelist.

Kids are allowed to play just for 45 minutes a week in their PT class. We need to improve PT Classes to two or three in a week. Then only kids can have fitness. It is important for kids to play at least one hour every day. Unfortunately, public places are going into private hands and there are no playgrounds for kids to play said Vishala Redddy, moderating a Panel Discussion " Role of Physical Literacy in Long -Term Athlete Developments & Sports" held at ISB

Sports have direct link to happiness. We need massive participation from public to make India a sporting nation. Four things that will drive sports culture in India said Jitendra Joshi, are 01. Place to pay, 2. Time to play, 3. Coaches at all levles and 4. Competitions. We want kids to fall in love with sports, he said.

Participipating in the discussion, Jaya Bharthi said in the last few decades everything has been turning into sports. We are forgetting games. Word called games is going to go out of dictionary. Street games are usually simple play time activities for children which used to ensure some physical activity. That is not the case now, she said.

Akshay, Mr. India 2017, another panelist said fit body represents a very calm mind. Dont make things competitive for kids.

When asked to comment on measures to be taken in schools to improve physical activity among the children, panelists observed that Physical Education is not given importance. It is outsourced by many schools. Parents obsession for marks must end. Their mindset must be changed. Try to push sports at home for the family members. Use every available space at home to carry on sports. There is cycling done on the terrace of a building. Home drawing room is converted into a small sports arena, they observed.

There was another panel discussion: Football in India held. Yogesh Mauray, Co-owner of Fateh Hyderabad(AFC), a football club based at Hyderabad moderated the discussion. The Panlists of the dicussion were Hrishikesh, Director-Adidas; Pradhyum Reddy, Coach of FC Pune, Nikhil Sharma, CEO of Anglian Management Group, Gourmang, Indian Professional Football Player.

Hrishikesh observed that lot of kids play football, but they don’t make up to professional football. Access to high quality and consistent coaching is lacking in India. There is no well defined careerpath in our country. German kids play 10,000 hours of football by the time they reach 16years. It is not about winning. It is about participaption. We dont have culture of Football, like Cricket. There is a big gap in the knowledge of Football coaching, he informed.
