Politics heats up on Virbhadra Singh's statue; Jairam Thakur targets the Sukhu Govt

Shimla, June 24 (HS): The issue of the statue of former Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has caught political fire. The opposition BJP has laid siege to the Sukhu government of the Congress on this issue.

Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur said on Saturday that Virbhadra Singh has been a tall leader and has served Himachal for a long time, but the Sukhu government is playing politics over the statue of Virbhadra Singh, which is unfortunate.

In a video message, Jairam Thakur said that something is not going well in the Congress. Virbhadra Singh was a top leader of the Congress. The Congress government had announced installing his statue on the ridge ground, but they have come to know that the government could not get permission to install Virbhadra Singh's statue on the ridge ground, and the statue had to be installed at another place in Sainj. There should be no politics in such matters.

Jairam Thakur said that there is a Congress government in the state. In such a situation, if this kind of politics takes place, then it is very unfortunate. He said that when our government was in the state, Virbhadra Singh had passed away tragically. At that time, there was a request before us that the statue of Virbhadra Singh be installed on the grounds of the ridge. On this, we had said that our government has no objection and we will move forward to take necessary action in this regard, but in the meantime, there has been a change of government, and today we are seeing that there are six people in the government in the state. Months have passed, but even after six months, no steps were taken towards installing the idol.

It is worth mentioning that after not getting permission to install the statue on the Ridge Maidan, the supporters of Virbhadra installed his statue at Sainj, Kumasen, and Upper Shimla. It was unveiled by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on June 22. The important thing is that the Congress headquarters kept its distance from the tribute ceremony organised at Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhu has had a figure of 36 since the late Virbhadra Singh. Virbhadra's wife, Pratibha Singh, is currently the president of the Himachal Congress, and his son, Vikramaditya Singh, is the minister for public works and sports in the Sukhu government.
