Police bust Sukha Barewala Gang; seize arms & ammunition

Ludhiana, March 19, 2014: Paramjit Singh Gill, Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana has said a special campaign against anti-social elements has been launched in Commissionerate Ludhiana. During this campaign a desperate criminal gang (Sukha Barewala Gang) has been busted and five members of this gang (including gang leader Sukha) have been arrested and heavy quantity of arms and ammunition and recently snatched vehicle from Sirsa in Haryana alongwith looted property including jewellery have been recovered from them.
On this morning, SI Harbans Singh In-charge Anti Narcotic Cell, Ludhiana alongwith police party was holding a special nakabandi on Hambran Road in connection with checking of suspected persons and vehicles. At about 5.30 AM one Mahindra Verito (Registration No.PB-09T-4488) was seen coming from Village Hambran side. The Naka party signalled the vehicle to stop but instead of doing so the vehicle borne tried to escape by hitting the police party on duty but due to strong and effective nakabandi they could not succeed and as a result they were over powered by the police party. The police party had a lucky escape. These criminals have been identified as under:
•    Sukhpreet Singh @ Sukha aged about 31 years S/o Baldev Singh R/o Barewal Awana, Ludhiana. (Gang Leader)
•    Jagga Singh aged about 39 years S/o Maghar Singh R/o Village Daraj PS Tapa District Barnala.
•    Buta Singh aged about 30 years S/o Mukhtiar Singh R/o Village Mehal Kalan District Barnala.
•    Inderjit Singh @ Kaka aged about 29 years S/o Chotta Singh R/o Village Bhaini Baringa PS Sadar Raikot District Jagraon.
•    Jarnail Singh @ Honey aged about 24 years S/o Bhagwant Singh R/o Village Balian (Kattu) PS Dhuri District Sangrur.
On the personal search of the accused, the following arms ammunition have been recovered from their possession:
•    One country made pistol 315 Bore along with 10 rounds.
•    Three Pistols 32 Bore alongwith 40 rounds.
•    One Gun 12 Bore along with 25 rounds.
A case (FIR No.20 dated March 19) u/s 307, 353, 332, 427, 186, 148, 149 IPC & 25/54/59 Arms Act PS Haibowal, Ludhiana has been registered against them. During preliminary investigation and interrogation of accused, it has been revealed that accused Sukhpreet Singh @ Sukha alongwith Jagga Singh and Jarnail Singh @ Honey had snatched Mahindra Verito No.PB-09T-4488 alongwith cash Rs. 2 Lakhs and gold jewellery on pistol point from Kewal KRishan @ Jimmy S/o Kalu Ram R/o Jaito Mandi and his driver Jaskaran Singh S/o Hartej Singh and dumped them Near Village Burj, Mansa. Regarding this incident case FIR No.8 dated 17.03.2014 u/s 392, 394 IPC has been registered at PS GRP Sirsa. Besides this accused Sukhpreet Singh @ Sukha is also involved in following criminal cases:

•    FIR No.234/2013 u/s 382, 398 IPC, 25 Arms Act PS Salem Tabri, Ludhiana (Yet to be arrested). Looted gambling amount of Rs.1,70,000/- in Chhouni Mohalla, Ludhiana. This gang also fired upon the police party near Nakodar. The gang leader Goru Bachha alongwith others was arrested and heavy quantity of weapons were recovered.

•    FIR No.80/2013 u/s 307, 382 IPC PS PAU, Ludhiana (Yet to be arrested). Fired on Mani Bhanja and injured near Octroi Post Barewal.
•    FIR No.67/2012 u/s 307 IPC PS Dugri, Ludhiana.
•    FIR No.113 dated 23.11.2013 u/s 307 IPC, 25 Arms Act PS Noorpur Bedi, District Ropar (Gurmeet Singh was injured).
