PM's visit a cruel joke on Punjab's flood victims, announced package a drop in the ocean - Brahmpura

Says step-motherly treatment to the community that feeds the nation is unacceptable; most of the funds are Punjab's own right

PM's visit a cruel joke on Punjab's flood victims, announced package a drop in the ocean - Brahmpura
Rs 1600 crore package is a cruel joke compared to the thousands of crores in damages, alleges SAD Vice President Brahmpura while speaking to reporters at Chamba Kalan village.

Tarn Taran, September 09, 2025: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader, former MLA, and Khadoor Sahib constituency in-charge, Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, on Tuesday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Punjab visit and the announced relief package for flood victims as a "great betrayal" of the people of Punjab. He was speaking to mediapersons in Chamba Kalan village of the Khadoor Sahib assembly constituency.

Brahmpura stated that the Prime Minister's visit was significantly delayed considering the massive devastation caused by the floods in Punjab. He termed the announced aid of Rs 1600 crore as "a drop in the ocean" compared to the thousands of crores worth of damage. "It is deeply saddening that the Punjabi community, which has always been at the forefront and made great sacrifices for the unity, integrity, and food security of the nation, is being neglected by the central government in its hour of crisis," he said. "Instead of applying a healing balm to Punjab's wounds, the Prime Minister's visit has proven to be a mere political drama."

Strongly criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, Brahmpura asserted that the Bhagwant Mann-led government has completely failed to handle the flood situation. He alleged that the extensive damage in Punjab was a direct result of the 'AAP' government's negligence and inexperience. He accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of failing to effectively present Punjab's case before the central government, which led to the state receiving such a meager package.

Brahmpura highlighted that the Shiromani Akali Dal, under the leadership of party President Sukhbir Singh Badal, has been dedicated to serving the flood victims from day one. "Our leaders and workers, without any government assistance, are helping people at their own level with langar, medicines, fodder for cattle, and other essential items because the SAD considers the pain of Punjab's farmers and people as its own," he remarked. He demanded that the central government immediately revise its decision and announce a special package of at least Rs 20,000 crore for Punjab to rebuild the devastated infrastructure and fully compensate the farmers for their losses.

Among those present on the occasion were Amrik Singh, Manjinder Singh Lati, Dr. Jatinder Singh, Dilber Singh, Gurdev Singh.
