PM Modi's birthday: Delhi govt to launch projects; city BJP to promote voluntary service

New Delhi, Sep 14 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and city BJP President Harsh Malhotra on Monday announced the launch of a "Seva Sankalp Abhiyan" involving inauguration and foundation stone laying of projects of more than Rs 8,000 crore to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday on September 17 and to mark the completion of his 25 years in public service.
 

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said, "Yamuna cleaning is a matter of faith for us, for every Indian and every Delhi resident. Therefore, cleaning the Yamuna is not a one-day project for us. We are continuously working on it, and that is why the Delhi government will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for projects worth around Rs 8,000 crore related to Yamuna cleaning during the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan."

"Along with the physical contribution and voluntary service, we will make towards cleaning the Yamuna, we will also dedicate the government's preparations for Yamuna cleaning to the people," she added.

A three-day "Sewa Setu Abhiyan" will also be organised by the Delhi government in all constituencies to share information and onboard citizens on welfare schemes of the Central government, Malhotra said.

For engaging the youth, a "Seva First Innovation Challenge" will be organised in educational institutions in consultations with their mentors and teachers, the Delhi BJP President added.

The Chief Minister said that infrastructure projects worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore have been given to Delhi by the Prime Minister, including projects that have been completed, are underway or are planned.

"Infrastructure such as Yashobhoomi and Bharat Mandapam made it possible to host such a grand BRICS Summit. We have also seen how the previous government used to organise events here," she added.

"I congratulate the Prime Minister on the BRICS Summit, which was held here over two days and made Delhi a centre of global diplomacy, with so many heads of state arriving here. The 18th BRICS Summit, led by the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi), points to India's growing role in the world, which is being recognised globally," she said.

Delhi BJP President Malhotra said, "In Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25 years of public service -- 13 years as Gujarat Chief Minister and a little over 12 years as Prime Minister — he has served the nation's 140 crore people. September 17 is his (PM Modi's) birthday, and we have always observed it as 'Seva Saptah' or 'Seva Pakhwada', reaching out to people with the government's service work and extending benefits to those who can avail them."

"When the Prime Minister took oath in 2014, he said in Parliament that his government was dedicated to the poor. As a result, more than 200 schemes were launched for the country's 140 crore people," he added.

"These schemes were implemented and monitored, and today, 140 crore people in the country have benefited from at least one of PM Modi's schemes. Whether it is the 220 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses administered or the provision of free foodgrains to 81 crore poor people eligible for ration during the same period, the scheme continues today and will continue till 2029," Malhotra said.
