Chandigarh, November 7, 2025: The Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies today organised a pledge ceremony on “Pledge to Promote Legal Adoption and Safeguarding of Children with Special Needs”.

The event was held with the objective of creating awareness about the significance of legal adoption procedures and the need to safeguard the rights and welfare of children with special needs. The initiative aimed to promote a culture of empathy, inclusivity, and social responsibility among students, faculty, and staff members.

During the ceremony, participants took a solemn pledge to support and promote ethical adoption practices, to protect the rights of children with special needs, and to contribute towards building a more compassionate and equitable society. The pledge reaffirmed the department’s commitment to Gandhian values of love, care, and social justice.

The Head of the Department Professor Manish Sharma emphasized that true peace and social harmony can only be achieved when the most vulnerable sections of society are protected and empowered. Faculty members, non-teaching staff members and students actively participated, expressing their dedication to spreading awareness about the legal frameworks governing adoption and the need for collective responsibility in ensuring child welfare.

The event concluded with a collective resolution to continue efforts toward advocacy, education, and social engagement in matters related to child welfare and inclusion, in alignment with the vision and mission of the Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies.
