Pledge to Make Kurukshetra Anemia-Free by September 30: Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan
Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), Nilokheri, stated that an 'Anemia Eradication Month' is being observed across the state until June 30, 2026, under the National Health Mission, Haryana.
Pehowa, June 24, 2026: Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), Nilokheri, stated that an 'Anemia Eradication Month' is being observed across the state until June 30, 2026, under the National Health Mission, Haryana.
The objective of this campaign is to strengthen the prevention, screening, and treatment of anemia among children, adolescents, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and women of reproductive age.
Dr. Chauhan was addressing a meeting of the district's Sarpanchs and Village Secretaries at the auditorium of the Block Development and Panchayat Office. He noted that, according to data received from the Health Department, 25,000 villagers have been screened so far, and more than half were found to be suffering from anemia.
Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan explained that arrangements have been made for the Panchayat Department to provide all possible support in rural areas for the campaign run by the State Health Department under this national mission. As part of this effort, a meeting was held on Wednesday involving the Health Department, village Sarpanchs, and Village Secretaries. He stated that the month of June is being observed as Anemia Eradication Month. It was decided in the meeting that the program would be taken forward across all villages in the district after the conclusion of the ongoing voter list purification (SIR) drive.
He mentioned that, following consultations with the representatives present, a target has been set to make Kurukshetra district anemia-free by September 30.
Neelam Chhikara, the State Nodal Officer from the Panchayat Department for the anemia eradication campaign, briefed the attendees on the campaign's nuances, significance, and objectives. Dr. Shailaja Mangla serves as the District Nodal Officer for this campaign.
She remarked that anemia is a serious public health issue that affects the physical and mental development of children as well as the health of women. During the campaign, activities such as anemia screening, distribution of iron-folic acid supplements, nutritional counseling, and awareness drives will be conducted across all panchayats, health institutions, and Anganwadi centers in the district. She stated that the campaign would specifically benefit children aged 6 to 59 months and 5 to 9 years, adolescents aged 10 to 19 years, women aged 20 to 49 years, as well as pregnant and lactating mothers. Under the 'T4 formula' of the 'Anemia-Free Haryana' 6x6x6 strategy, the identification, screening, treatment, and follow-up of eligible beneficiaries will be ensured.
They urged Sarpanchs and prominent citizens to identify individuals in need, encourage them to avail the services offered under this massive anemia eradication campaign at their nearest health or Anganwadi centers, and contribute to building an anemia-free society by adopting an iron-rich, balanced diet.
