PGIMS to Be Developed as Centre of Excellence for Healthy Haryana: UHSR VC Dr Aggarwal

Rohtak, August 15, 2026: Vice Chancellor of Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Dr H.K. Aggarwal unfurled the National Flag and took the guard of honour at the university’s 80th Independence Day celebrations on Saturday. Extending Independence Day greetings, he outlined the institution’s roadmap for strengthening healthcare, medical education and research.

VC Dr Aggarwal said the university aimed to develop PGIMS Rohtak into a Centre of Excellence in healthcare, medical education and research at the national and global level. He said the Haryana government had sanctioned a budget of ₹1,232 crore for 2026-27, an increase of ₹422 crore over the previous year, which would help strengthen infrastructure, education, research and patient care.

He said a ₹35-crore 128-slice PET/CT machine would be procured for the Nuclear Medicine Department, while ₹5 crore had been allocated for research and development. A proposal to designate PGIMS as a Centre of Excellence for Rare Diseases has also been submitted to the Government of India.

The Vice-Chancellor said work on the new Emergency Block and Critical Care Hospital, Faculty Guest House, Central Library and boys’ and girls’ hostels would be expedited. He said the institute was also expanding its technological capabilities in areas including artificial intelligence, robotic surgery, telemedicine and genomics.

However, Dr Aggarwal stressed that technology could never replace a doctor’s compassion and sensitivity, which he described as essential qualities of a healthcare professional.

Expressing pride in the institute’s rankings, he credited the achievements to the collective efforts of faculty, staff and students. He urged everyone to uphold five national commitments—protecting unity, maintaining honesty and discipline, promoting education, science and innovation, fulfilling responsibilities towards the environment and society, and enhancing India’s pride through their actions.

The programme was conducted by In-charge PR Department, Dr Manjunath, along with Dr Umesh Yadav and Acharya Kiran Kaur.

Chauhan, Principals Prof. Sunita Kumari and Naveen Khatri, besides heads of all departments, officers, employees and a large number of students.
