Chandigarh, August 30, 2013:  The Executive Body of the Punjab Civil Services (Executive Branch) Officers Association held a meeting in the wake of the decision taken by the Punjab Government to compulsorily retire three PCS (EB) officers prematurely.

The Association without deliberating on the merits of the individual cases is contemplating about the initiative taken by the Government to implement the policy which is in vogue since years but was not invoked hitherto. The officers of the Executive body present in the meeting were of the unanimous view that this step should be uniformly applied across all cadres of the service including All India Services. The Association has urged the government to review its policy regarding compulsory retirement.

In the past the Government had removed from service some officers/ officials belonging to other services and the actions taken by the Government in these cases were upheld by the Courts but subsequently Government has taken the officers back into service despite their proven dubious service records.

The spokesman of the Association said that Association has always held the ethics in service on a high pedestal and supports any step taken towards improvement of the efficiency and efficacy of the Government. Although a beginning has been made from the PCS cadre, Association is waiting and watching whether the Government is serious in implementing this decision in other cadres of service or the exercise is a flash in the pan.
