PCM S.D. College for Women Marks 150 Years of Vande Mataram with Inspiring Patriotic Celebrations
The NCC Unit of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar under the able guidance of ANO Captain Priya Mahajan, in collaboration with the Department of Fine Arts, organized a vibrant Painting Competition to commemorate 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram. The event honoured the historic moment when Bankimchandra Chatterji penned the timeless song on the day of Akshaya Navami.
Jalandhar, November 18, 2025: The NCC Unit of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar under the able guidance of ANO Captain Priya Mahajan, in collaboration with the Department of Fine Arts, organized a vibrant Painting Competition to commemorate 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram. The event honoured the historic moment when Bankimchandra Chatterji penned the timeless song on the day of Akshaya Navami.
The competition, themed “2025: 150 Years of Vande Mataram”, encouraged students to depict nationalism, unity, and India’s cultural heritage through artistic expression. Participants beautifully illustrated Mother India, the freedom struggle, and the deep patriotic sentiments that the song has evoked for generations. Bhavya of B.A. Semester I bagged first position, Narayani of B.A. Semester I and Ritu of B.A. Semester III made it to second position, Vanshika of B.Com Semester I and Manisha of B.Com F.S. Semester I managed it to third position.
A stirring performance by the NCC cadets, who sang Vande Mataram in unison, filled the campus with pride and devotion. Under the mentorship of Captain Priya Mahajan, the cadets and other students of PCM S.D. showcased exemplary discipline and patriotic spirit, paying tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters and reaffirming the emotional power of the national song.
President Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Dr Pooja Prashar acknowledged the efforts of the NCC cadets, ANO Captain Priya Mahajan and Ashima, Assistant Professor, Department of Fine Arts.
