Jalandhar, April 22, 2022: In support of the global initiative for Soil Conservation known as “Save Soil”, by the Isha Foundation led by Sadhguru, the NCC Unit of Prem Chand Markanda S.D. College organised an ’Earth Fair’ from April 20 to 22  to commemorate the International Earth Day.

The three-day event commenced with a dance performance in the morning assembly shedding light on the importance of conserving soil followed by an oath “Save Soil, Save Earth.” After the assembly, Principal, Dr. Pooja Prashar and Surinder Saini, General Secretary, Jalandhar Welfare Society, flagged off the cycle rally. The rally started from Prem Chand Markanda S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, towards Alaska Chowk via S.D. Road, continuing towards Ajit Saini Cultural Theatre at Government Model Co-Education Senior Secondary School, Ladowali Road and finally towards Jalandhar city Railway Station. At the Railway Station, the students performed a small act, spreading awareness on “Save Soil, Save Earth”, along with a pledge to make conscious efforts towards saving soil. The next day, that is, 21 April, the cycle rally continued, starting from Company Bagh where the students spread awareness on the issue via various dance and street performances, and concluded at Shivani Park, Model Town, where the students distributed pamphlets and spread awareness through poetry and speeches.
The same day, the department of Psychology organised a Poster Making Competition on the same theme in which the students from various streams spread the message of soil conservation through their artwork. The final day of the fair began with the cycle rally which culminated at Shri Devi Talab Mandir, Jalandhar. The students made the public aware of the “Soil Extinction Crisis", referring to a study by the United Nations Food & Agricultural Organisation and other UN Agencies stating that in another 50-60 years, the harvest soil will go infertile. In addition to that, a Rangoli Making activity was also organised by the Department of Home Science, where the students made use of organic colours in rangolis. The final chapter of the mega event concluded with a motivating speech by Madam Principal on the needful conservation and protection of our Soil Resources. The Earth Fair, in collaboration with Isha Foundation, led by Sh. Sadhguru, aimed at salvaging the fertility of our harvest soil and subsequently the soil related crisis in the coming years. The event was organised by the NCC unit of the college, under the guidance of Lt. Priya Mahajan and Ria Sharma.

The collegiate block of PCM SD also celebrated Earth Day under the supervision of Sangita Sharma, head of the school block. Members of the managing committee and Principal applauded the efforts of the department of NCC and the students enunciating that such activities are eye-opening and mentally-stimulating to the general public.
