PCM S.D. College for Women Encourages Environment Sustainability Through Hands-On Experience in Energy Audit
Empowering students through Hands-on Audits and Interactive Learning to safeguard our atmosphere.
Jalandhar, September 19, 2026: On the occasion of World Ozone Day 2026, themed "Global Action for a Cooler Planet – Celebrating 10 Years of Sustainable Cooling", the Eco Club and Department of Science organised a Two-Day campaign in the college campus to sensitise students and staff about ozone layer protection and environmentally responsible cooling practices.
The core highlight of the initiative was an extensive hands-on survey activity on Day 1, where student volunteers took direct action by auditing air conditioners and refrigerators across academic departments, laboratories, and administrative offices to assess real-time usage habits. Through this direct field engagement, volunteers actively guided participants on critical energy-saving measures, such as setting optimal temperatures, preventing prolonged operation, ensuring timely filter servicing, and prioritizing energy-efficient equipment, while an online e-quiz simultaneously tested knowledge on ozone-depleting substances.
Building on the real-world findings from the survey.
Day 2 featured an interactive discussion session where students proposed practical individual and institutional solutions, focused on transitioning to green technologies, conserving energy in daily routines, and empowering youth to act as responsible environmental ambassadors within the wider community.
The event was supported by Mission LiFE & Environment Education Programme of Ministry of environment, forest, and climate change (MoEF & CC), Government of India and the State Nodal Agency , Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, under the able guidance of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
