Jalandhar, August 18, 2026: The Library Advisory Committee of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, celebrated National Librarian Day with great enthusiasm on  commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, widely regarded as the Father of Library Science in India. The day is observed in recognition of his pioneering contributions to library and information science.
Sonia Kumari, Librarian, highlighted Dr. Ranganathan’s remarkable contribution to the development of libraries in India. His famous Five Laws of Library Science—“Books are for use,” “Every reader his/her book,” “Every book its reader,” “Save the time of the reader,” and “The library is a growing organism”—were recalled as guiding principles that continue to inspire modern librarianship.
The programme also highlighted the changing role of libraries in the digital age. The library was presented not merely as a repository of books, but as an important centre for knowledge, research, digital resources, and intellectual development.
