Reiterating its emphasis on minimizing post-harvest losses and promoting value addition as well as agro-processing, the Skill Development Centre of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) conducted a five-day training course on the “Post-Harvest Management” in which 20 scheduled castes participated.

Ludhiana, March 26, 2024: Reiterating its emphasis on minimizing post-harvest losses and promoting value addition as well as agro-processing, the Skill Development Centre of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) conducted a five-day training course on the “Post-Harvest Management” in which 20 scheduled castes participated. 

Experts from the Departments of Processing and Food Engineering (PFE); Food Science and Technology; Extension Education, PAU; and the AGMARK laboratory explained the novel processing technologies to plummet the post-harvest losses and beef-up the income of the rural dwellers.

“It is important to equip the rural men, women and the youth with the post-harvest management technologies to preserve the nutritional and economic value of cereals, fruits and vegetables,” opined Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development).

Urging the trainees to avoid wastage of agri-produce, Dr Prerna Kapila, Course Coordinator, advised retaining tastes and flavors via culinary delights, and suggested the usage of cereals, fruits and vegetables in the making of bakery as well as confectionery products.

The Head of PFE Dr Satish Kumar; AGMARK Laboratory Incharge Dr Manmeet Manav; and the resource persons, namely Dr Sanjeev Rattan Sharma, Dr Gurveer Kaur, Dr Preetinder Kaur, Dr MS Alam, Dr Mahesh Kumar, Dr Sandhya Singh, Dr Preeti, Er Rohit Kumar, Dr Maninder Kaur, Dr Vikas Kumar, Dr Jaspreet Kaur, Dr Gurnaaz Gill, Dr Neha Babbar, Dr Jagbir Rehal, Dr Baljit Singh, Dr Kamaljit Kaur, Dr Arshdeep Singh, and Dr Devinder Tiwari delivered lectures and gave demonstrations on processing techniques, safe storage of grains, and preparation of value added products.

Kuldeep Kaur and Kanwaljit Kaur imparted hands-on-training in the making of squashes, sharbats, cakes, muffins, breads and buns.

Extension Scientist Dr Lavleesh Garg shared skill-concerned intricacies and proposed a vote of thanks.
