PAU vegetable scientists get national recognition

The vegetable scientists of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have brought laurels to the University during the 41st Annual Group Meeting of the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP-Vegetable Crops), held at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Srinagar, from June 3-5. All the scientists working under the AICRP-VC scheme attended the workshop and presented the work done in the AICRP programme.

Ludhiana, June 12, 2023: The vegetable scientists of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have brought laurels to the University during the 41st Annual Group Meeting of the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP-Vegetable Crops), held at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Srinagar, from June 3-5. All the scientists working under the AICRP-VC scheme attended the workshop and presented the work done in the AICRP programme.

Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Head, Department of Vegetable Science, co-chaired the session on “Collection, Evaluation, Conservation and Utilization of Germplasm.”

Dr RK Dhall, Principal Olericulturist, was awarded the Fellow of the Indian Society of Vegetable Science (ISVS), Varanasi for the year 2021.

Besides, Dr Sat Pal Sharma, Principal Vegetable Breeder, got nominated as the Fellow of the same society for the year 2022.

Tejpal Singh Sran, a Ph.D Scholar of the Department of Vegetable Science, was awarded the prestigious “Dwarika Nath Memorial Award” for the best Ph.D thesis for the year 2022 by the ISVS, Varanasi. He was awarded for his Ph.D research on “Combined phenotypic and marker based introgression of leaf curl virus disease resistance from hot pepper to heat tolerant bell pepper” being carried out under the guidance of Dr SK Jindal, Senior Vegetable Breeder, PAU.

Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU; Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director Research; Dr Pardeep Kumar Chunneja, Dean, Postgraduate Studies; Dr Manav Indra Singh Gill, Dean, College of Horticulture and Forestry; and Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Head, Department of Vegetable Science, congratulated the scientists and the student and wished them success in their future endeavours.
