Ludhiana, August 1, 2017: The Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana has entered into agreement with Unati Cooperative Society, Talwara for commercialisation of two technologies: Fermented beverage production from fruits and vegetables and probiotic beverage from black carrots.
The MoA was signed by Director of Research, PAU, Dr Navtej Singh Bains and General Manager, Unati Cooperative Society, Jyoti Saroop on behalf of their respective organisations. Dr B.S. Dhillon, Vice Chancellor, PAU, congratulated Dr (Mrs.) Param Pal Sahota, Head of Department, Microbiology, for successfully developing the technology and wished success for the Unati society.
Dr Sahota, while giving details of the technology revealed that the fermented beverage production technology, first of its kind is naturally carbonated (1.5 bar CO2) with low alcoholic content (
Another technology transferred is of probiotic beverage from black carrots which has extended benefits of anthocyanins, vitamins and other antioxidants. This technology is first of its kind based on vegetable juice with added benefits. "As of date the probiotics available in the market are dairy based", she said. Dr Sahota earlier has to her credit the development of Food and Water testing kits.
Unati Cooperative Society GM, Jyoti Saroop informed that the organisation was established by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology under the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India project in Talwara, District Hoshiarpur, with an aim to utilize local bio sources of Kandi area and help generate income for local community.
Till date, PAU has commercialised more than 40 technologies, informed, Dr S.S. Chahal, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, PAU. Also present at the occasion were Dr Ashok Kumar, Director, Extension and Dr Saravjeet Singh, ADR, PAU.
