PAU organizes training in fruit drop management in citrus

The Department of Fruit Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a one-day training programme on the “Management of Fruit Drop in Citrus with Special Reference to Fruit-Piercing Moths” at MS Randhawa Fruit Research Station, Gangian, Hoshiarpur under National Horticulture Mission and ICAR-AICRP on Fruits. A total of 29 fruit growers participated in the training camp.

Ludhiana, October 11, 2023: The Department of Fruit Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a one-day training programme on the “Management of Fruit Drop in Citrus with Special Reference to Fruit-Piercing Moths” at MS Randhawa Fruit Research Station, Gangian, Hoshiarpur under National Horticulture Mission and ICAR-AICRP on Fruits. A total of 29 fruit growers participated in the training camp.

According to Dr HS Rattanpal, Head, Department of Fruit Science, PAU, the objective of the training was to acquaint the fruit growers and Horticulture Development Officers with the latest scientific technologies regarding the management of fruit drop in citrus, especially due to fruit moth damage.

Dr Sandeep Singh, Principal Entomologist (Fruits) and Organizing Secretary of this training, delivered a lecture on integrated pest management of fruit-piercing moths which is a sporadic pest of citrus orchards of the Kandi area.

Dr Anita Arora, Principal Plant Pathologist (Fruits), discussed in detail the management of pathological fruit drop in citrus and spray schedule to be followed by the citrus growers round the year.

Dr Gurteg Singh, Principal Fruit Scientist, delivered a lecture on physiological fruit drop in citrus crop.

Lakhbir Singh, Horticulture Development Officer, Dasuya, informed the farmers about various subsidy schemes.

Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Bahowal, spoke on various aspects of integrated pest management in fruit crops.

Dr Sumanjit Kaur, Incharge, Fruit Research Scientist, Gangian coordinated the farmers-scientists’ interactive session.
