Ludhiana, August 30, 2013: Ramanpreet, 37, with history of primary infertility came to Dr. Rama Sofat Hospital and Dr. Ruchika Test Tube Baby Centre. She was diagnosed to have four fibroids on an ultrasound measuring 3 to 6 cms.

According to Dr. Amit Sofat, fibroids are beginning tumours which arise from uterine musculature and have an incidence of 20 to 40 per cent in women in age group of 20-45 years. He added these fibroids lead to heavy periods/pain abdomen/ heaviness lower abdomen/ infertility/sometimes unhealthy discharge.

Further, he said these fibroids were removed Laproscopically at their hospital and the uterus was sutured with intracoporial stitches. He said the fibroids are morcellated and removed from the abdomen in piecemeal manner.

He said the main advantage of this procedure are that only three cuts are given on the abdomen, which measure just 1 cm each versus 4 to 5 inch cut in open surgery. He added the patient has much lesser bleeding in lap surgery v/s open surgery. Also a patient recovers much faster in this kind of procedures.

He revealed the patient got operated on August 29 and has been discharged today.
