Park Hospital Mohali organizes bikeathon on the eve of World Cancer Day

As many as 25 riders participated in a bikeathon here on Tuesday on the eve of World Cancer Day. The bikeathon was organized by Park Hospital Mohali in association with the biking community, Full Throttle Nation Group to motivate cancer survivors while symbolizing strength, solidarity, and hope in the fight against cancer.

Chandigarh: As many as 25 riders participated in a bikeathon here on Tuesday on the eve of World Cancer Day. The bikeathon was organized by Park Hospital Mohali in association with the biking community, Full Throttle Nation Group to motivate cancer survivors while symbolizing strength, solidarity, and hope in the fight against cancer.
Among others, Dr. Sandeep Kukkar, director-medical oncology, Dr Harinder Pal Singh , director-medical oncology, Dr Vijay Jagar, senior consultant-surgical oncology, Dr Jobanjit Kaur, consultant-radiation Oncology, Dr Arnav Tiwari, consultant-radiation oncology and Dr Ashish Kamra, consultant-nuclear medicine from Park Hospital Mohali were also present during the occasion.
Speaking during the occasion, Dr Sandeep Kukkar said that 30 lakh people in India suffer from cancer, of which 15.6 Lacs are new cases. Cancer claims 9.1 lakh lives each year in India. Breast & Cervical cancer are the most common Cancers in Females, whereas Lung & Liver are most Common Cancers in Males in India. A few decades back, breast cancer was seen only after fifty years of age, and the number of young women suffering from this disease were lesser; almost 65% to 70% patients were above 50 years and only 30 to 35% women were below fifty years of age. However, presently, breast cancer is more common in the younger age group and 50% of all cases are in the 25 to 50 years age group. More than 70% of the cases present in advanced stage accounting for poor survival and high mortality.
Dr Vijay Jagad said,“These days most of the Cancer surgeries can be done with robotic technology. He said that robotic onco surgery is a much better option than open surgery for various body tumors including esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, uterine cancer and rectal cancer. Advantages of robotic surgery are lesser pain, shorter hospital stay, faster recovery, no blood loss and improved cosmesis.”
