New Delhi/Chandigarh, November 15, 2015: The President of the Punjab Congress, Mr.Partap Singh Bajwa strongly condemned the cowardly terror attack in Paris and stated that this is an attack against humanity which must be given a befitting response. Mr.Bajwa added that in a global environment where terrorists seek to create an atmosphere of fear it is all the more important that our Defence forces are equipped with the wherewithal to meet this challenge. In such circumstances, it becomes imperative for the Government to ensure that our Armed and Para-military forces are strengthened and their well-being is given a priority.

The recent controversy surrounding the One Rank One Pension issue was extremely unfortunate and such needless quibbling over a few thousand crore rupees is unbecoming of the Government of India. It must be of utmost concern to our Government that the families of our forces are well looked after and their post retirement benefits are given due importance. It is incumbent on us to ensure that they lead a life of dignity and respect and that their financial needs are safeguarded. In such matters of national security, the Government must rise above petty considerations and look at the larger picture.

The Modi Government never misses an opportunity to announce special packages running into thousands of crores for poll bound States but left our Veterans and Brave hearts in the lurch compelling them to lead protests and dharna’s to seek what is rightfully theirs. The recent events in the world are an indication that the forces must be strengthened which not only extends to armaments but must also include the well-being of their families and availability of necessary resources to ensure their growth and prosperity. The Prime Minister must set his priorities right and come out of his perennial election rhetoric mode.
