Panjab University(PU), Professor Manish Sharma presented paper on “The Model of Development: A Comparison of Gandhian and Confucian Perspectives”at the 11th International Nishan Forum on World Civilizations Conference, held in China.

Chandigarh, July 17, 2025: Panjab University(PU), Professor Manish Sharma presented paper on “The Model of Development: A Comparison of Gandhian and Confucian Perspectives”at the 11th International Nishan Forum on World Civilizations Conference, held in China.
The theme of International Conference was on “Beauty in Diversity: Nurturing Understanding Among Civilizations for Global Modernization”. The participants included Vice President of the Republic of Maldives H.E. Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Senior Minister, Royal Government of Cambodia H.E. Chhem Kieth Rethy, many foreign dignitaries, representatives from international organizations, Ambassadors to China and global experts from 70 countries.
In his paper submitted at two days International Conference at Qufu in China’s Shandong province, Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies’s Prof. Sharma highlighted the model of development keeping in view the various dimensions and teachings of Confucius and Gandhi. He emphasised and highlighted the importance of preserving the diversity of human civilizations while promoting peaceful global development through the philosophy of these two great leaders.
In his paper Prof. Sharma said that Confucius and Gandhi both lived in different eras yet at many places we can see their view points were quite similar at some stage when we see them as political reformers or in the perspective of a human centric, the outcome of their thoughts lead us to think and see that both of them worked for the humanity as such. The paper also dealt with the thoughts and ideas on Education, Philosophical Foundations, Socio-Political Development, Economic Development, Ethical and Cultural Dimensions, Development and Modernity.
Professor Manish Sharma had earlier represented Panjab University in 13 different countries including USA, Russia, Japan, Indonesia, Austria, Thailand, Turkey, West Africa, Netherlands, Nepal, about 18 times through various conferences/seminars..
